New Scootopia Lambretta Series 3 & GP Front Dampers Review

Scootopia Lambretta Series 3 & GP Front Dampers with Original S.C.M. Logo (coming soon)

At Scooter Vista, we're always excited to see manufacturers investing time and effort into recreating Lambretta parts as close to the original Innocenti specifications as possible.

The latest sample we've received from Scootopia is a perfect example of this dedication to authenticity – a new Series 3 and GP-style front damper set featuring the original S.C.M. logo.

For many scooterists, a front damper is simply another replacement part. However, for restorers and enthusiasts striving to recreate the look and feel of an original Lambretta, details like these make all the difference.

What Was S.C.M.?

S.C.M. was one of the original manufacturers that supplied front dampers for Innocenti during the production years of the Lambretta. Original scooters fitted with factory dampers often carried the distinctive S.C.M. marking, making it a recognised feature amongst collectors and restorers.

Over the years, many replacement dampers have become available, but very few have replicated this original branding detail.

A Step Closer to Original

Scootopia's latest front damper set has been developed to capture the appearance of the original factory-fitted units, including the iconic S.C.M. logo.

It's a small touch, but one that immediately stands out to anyone familiar with original Lambretta components.

These dampers are suitable for Series 3 and GP-style front suspension setups and maintain the classic slim-profile appearance associated with original Innocenti machines. Whether you're carrying out a full restoration or simply replacing worn suspension components, they look right at home on any classic Lambretta.

First Impressions

Having inspected the sample, we were impressed from the moment we unpacked them.

The dampers have a quality finish and feel exceptionally well made. One of the first things we noticed was the strength of the damping action. Pulling the damper outwards requires a reassuring amount of force, giving confidence that they're built to cope with the demands of everyday riding.

The rubber mounting bushes are also an excellent fit. Unlike some aftermarket dampers, there's no need to pack them out with penny washers to eliminate unwanted movement. They fit snugly straight out of the box, making installation much simpler.

Another positive is the quality of the sealing. We've found no signs of oil leaking from the dampers, which is something that can unfortunately affect lower-quality replacements. Everything appears to be well assembled and finished.

For owners looking to retain a factory-style appearance, these dampers will also accept the standard Lambretta rubber damper covers, allowing them to blend seamlessly into an original or period-correct restoration.

Why the Details Matter

The Lambretta scene has evolved significantly over the years. While performance upgrades remain popular, there is also a growing appreciation for originality and historically accurate restorations.

It's often the smallest details that separate a good restoration from a great one:

  • Original S.C.M. branding
  • Correct slim-profile appearance
  • Quality rubber bushes that fit properly
  • Strong, positive damping action
  • Leak-free construction
  • Compatibility with original rubber damper covers

These may seem like small points individually, but together they make for a product that feels well engineered and carefully thought out.

Final Thoughts

Scootopia continues to raise the bar with its reproduction Lambretta parts, and these new Series 3 & GP-style front dampers are another excellent example.

The return of the original S.C.M. logo is a fantastic detail for restorers, while the solid damping action, correctly fitting rubber bushes, leak-free construction and compatibility with original rubber damper covers make them an equally attractive option for riders who simply want reliable, quality components on their scooter.

We have fitted this sample set to one of our good customers scooters for long-term road testing, but based on our first impressions, Scootopia has produced another part that's sure to be popular with Lambretta owners who value both quality and authenticity.

We currently have no date of when these will be for sale, we certainly cant wait to have them!
