Vespa PX Engine Rebuild Kits Are Back – Updated Kits & Now £15 Cheaper

Our Vespa PX engine bearing, oil seal and gasket kits are back in stock, and we've made a number of changes to the contents.

We've reviewed the components used in the kits and moved to a selection of Scootopia, Nadella and MEC EUR components, while also upgrading the clutch-side oil seal. The result is a comprehensive engine rebuild kit containing the major bearings, oil seals, gaskets and O-rings needed when rebuilding a Vespa PX engine.

Even better, the updated kits are now £15 cheaper per set.

We have kits available for both Vespa PX/PE 125/150 and PX/PE 200 engines.

What's Changed With Our Vespa Engine Rebuild Kits?

The main reason for updating the kits was to make sure we were offering a good combination of quality, specification and value.

Scootopia Gasket Sets

We've moved away from the Genuine Piaggio gasket sets previously used in the kits and have replaced them with Scootopia gasket sets.

We've found the Scootopia gasket sets to be comparable in quality to the Genuine Piaggio sets, while being slightly cheaper.

Another advantage is that the Scootopia set contains all the gaskets and O-rings required for both autolube and premix models.

This means there is no need to purchase a separate gasket set depending on whether your Vespa PX is running an oil-injection/autolube system or has been converted to premix.

For an engine rebuild, having the required gaskets and O-rings together in one kit makes the job considerably simpler.

Scootopia Oil Seals

The oil seals in the kits have also been changed.

We have moved away from the previous Corteco oil seals and now use Scootopia oil seals.

Again, this isn't simply a case of choosing a cheaper component. We've found the Scootopia oil seals to be excellent quality and suitable for inclusion in our complete Vespa engine rebuild kits.

Upgraded Metal Clutch-Side Oil Seal

One of the more significant changes is the metal clutch-side oil seal.

The previous standard Corteco seal has been replaced with a double-lipped, ethanol-resistant Scootopia metal oil seal.

The double-lipped design provides an additional sealing lip, while the ethanol-resistant material makes the seal better suited to modern fuels.

When rebuilding a Vespa PX engine, the clutch-side oil seal is an important component to replace rather than simply reusing the original seal. Once the engine is apart, fitting a new quality seal makes much more sense than risking an old or hardened seal causing problems after the engine has been rebuilt.

SKF Clutch Bearing Changed to Nadella

The clutch bearing has also been changed from SKF to Nadella.

Both SKF and Nadella bearings have been used by Piaggio as original-equipment bearings, so this is a change of manufacturer rather than a move away from an established bearing specification.

Nadella is a well-known bearing manufacturer and their bearings are widely used within the scooter industry.

MEC EUR Input Needle Bearings

The input needle bearings are now supplied by MEC EUR.

MEC EUR is an established manufacturer of scooter and motorcycle components, and we've chosen their needle bearings for the updated kits.

This means the bearing selection in the kits has also been reviewed as part of the update rather than simply carrying over the previous components.

What's Included in a Vespa Engine Rebuild Kit?

A Vespa PX engine rebuild involves replacing a number of components that are difficult or impossible to inspect properly until the engine has been dismantled.

Bearings, oil seals and gaskets all have an important job to do, and replacing them while the engine is apart is sensible preventative maintenance.

Our kits combine these major engine rebuild components into one package, giving you the main parts needed when carrying out a full engine strip and rebuild.

The updated kits are available for:

  • Vespa PX/PE 125
  • Vespa PX/PE 150
  • Vespa PX/PE 200

Make sure you select the correct engine size when ordering, as the 125/150 and 200 engines use different components.

Why Replace Bearings, Oil Seals and Gaskets Together?

If you're rebuilding a Vespa PX engine, it makes little sense to spend time stripping the engine down and then refitting old bearings or oil seals simply because they were still fitted.

Bearings wear with mileage and age. Oil seals can harden or deteriorate over time, while gaskets are designed to be replaced once the engine has been dismantled.

Replacing these components during the rebuild gives you the opportunity to start with a fresh set of internal engine components.

Engine Bearings

The crankshaft, clutch and other rotating components rely on bearings to allow them to operate correctly.

A worn bearing can result in play, noise or vibration and can contribute to further engine problems if left unchecked.

Once an engine is stripped down, replacing the relevant bearings is generally far easier than having to dismantle it again later.

Oil Seals

Oil seals prevent engine oil and fuel mixture from passing where it shouldn't.

A failed or deteriorated oil seal can lead to leaks and, depending on which seal has failed, can also affect how the engine runs.

This is why oil seals should be considered an important part of a proper engine rebuild rather than an afterthought.

Gaskets and O-Rings

Once an engine has been dismantled, the original gaskets should not simply be reused.

Gaskets compress and conform to the surfaces they seal. Removing them can damage their sealing ability, even if they appear to look usable.

The updated Scootopia gasket sets include the required gaskets and O-rings for both autolube and premix configurations, making them a convenient choice when rebuilding a Vespa PX engine.

Vespa PX 125/150 or PX 200 – Which Kit Do I Need?

The first thing to establish when ordering your engine rebuild kit is the engine size.

Vespa PX/PE 125 & 150

The 125/150 kit is designed for the relevant PX and PE 125cc and 150cc engines.

If you're rebuilding a PX125 or PX150 engine, choose the 125/150 version of the kit.

Vespa PX/PE 200

For the larger PX/PE 200 engine, you will need the dedicated 200cc engine rebuild kit.

The 200 engine uses different bearing, seal and gasket requirements, so the 200 kit should be selected rather than the 125/150 version.

If you're unsure which engine you have, check the engine markings and compare them with the product fitment information before ordering.

One Kit for Autolube or Premix

One of the useful changes to the updated kits is the inclusion of a Scootopia gasket set covering both autolube and premix models.

This is particularly useful because many older Vespa PX engines have been modified during their lifetime.

Some scooters retain their original autolube system, while others have been converted to premix.

Rather than needing to buy a different gasket set depending on the lubrication system, the updated kit gives you the required gaskets and O-rings in one set.

Now £15 Less Per Set

The other big change is the price.

We've managed to reduce the price of each complete Vespa engine bearing, oil seal and gasket kit by £15 per set.

That's despite updating the contents of the kits, moving to the new Scootopia gasket and oil seal components, upgrading the clutch-side oil seal to a double-lipped ethanol-resistant version, and changing the clutch and input needle bearings.

For anyone planning a Vespa PX engine rebuild, that makes the updated kits a useful way of getting the major rebuild components together in one package.

Ideal for a Vespa PX Engine Rebuild

Whether you're restoring an original Vespa PX, rebuilding a tired engine or simply carrying out a preventative engine overhaul, replacing the bearings, oil seals, gaskets and O-rings gives you a solid starting point for the rebuild.

The updated Scooter Vista kits bring together the major components you'll need, with:

  • Scootopia gasket sets
  • Gaskets and O-rings for autolube and premix models
  • Scootopia oil seals
  • Double-lipped ethanol-resistant metal clutch-side oil seal
  • Nadella clutch bearing
  • MEC EUR input needle bearings
  • Versions for PX/PE 125/150 and PX/PE 200
  • And a £15 price reduction per kit

If you're rebuilding a Vespa PX engine, having the correct bearings, seals and gaskets ready before you start can save time, avoid delays and help ensure the engine goes back together properly.

The updated Vespa PX engine rebuild kits are now back in stock at Scooter Vista.
