Fitted between the cylinder barrel and engine casing, the cylinder base gasket is a critical component that helps create an airtight and oil-tight seal. It prevents air leaks, maintains correct crankcase compression, and contributes to the overall performance and reliability of the engine.

Whether you're carrying out a complete engine rebuild, replacing a cylinder kit, or performing routine maintenance, fitting a new base gasket is essential for achieving proper sealing and long-term engine reliability.

⚙️ What Does a Cylinder Base Gasket Do?

The cylinder base gasket sits between the bottom of the cylinder barrel and the engine casing.

Its important functions include:

  • Sealing the crankcase from outside air
  • Maintaining correct crankcase pressure
  • Preventing oil leaks around the cylinder base
  • Ensuring efficient fuel and air transfer within the engine
  • Supporting reliable engine performance

Even a small leak at the cylinder base can affect engine tuning, running quality, and reliability.

🏁 Why Is the Cylinder Base Gasket Important on a Two-Stroke Engine?

Unlike a four-stroke engine, a Lambretta two-stroke relies on crankcase pressure to transfer the fuel and air mixture into the cylinder.

Want to just fit my new exhaust and be happy with my product. Exhaust still sat in broken box on the side. Banking on a response to solve the problem. Looking unlikely and may have to start seeking help for citizens advice. Not impressed and won’t be recommending or using again with the scooter scene down South

Contacted and still no reply. Quick response when purchasing but ever since I’ve had an issue, nothing. £307 exhaust with paid delivery. Received as shown. Exhaust is scratched with no new protective layer especially on stainless steel can. Asked for a refund, swap or partial refund of some money back. Not heard nothing. Want to just fit my new exhaust and be happy with my product. Exhaust still sat in broken box on the side. Banking on a response to solve the problem. Looking unlikely and may have to start seeking help for citizens advice. Not impressed and won’t be recommending or using again with the scooter scene down South
